9th October 2015. Denis Buczynski "Newsworthy Comets
Denis gave an entertaining look at the history of comet discovery, describing with plentiful slide illustrations how ancient comets were depicted in art, the earliest photographic evidence and images of outstanding comets and their varied structures. His tales of predictions and early media reports - which usually failed live up to hype - were hugely enjoyed by all.
Thanks, Denis, for a superb start to the seasons meetings
Following the break Ken showed slides of a recent rather weak auroral display, a picture can be found in the Earth Gallery.
Denis and his good lady were then shown around the observatory, whilst our librarian showed us some books which were available to borrow. He hoped to bring books related to talks in the future.
