13th March David Paterson (DAS)
"Rosetta : Catching a Comet"
David's well presented and illustrated talk covered the history of cometary discovery from it's earliest days to the latest ESA's Rosetta mission to land on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Although this mission was marred by a somewhat shaky landing, the resulting data returned has proved of considerable scientific value and, as the comet approaches the sun, changes in the comets constitution could provide further infrormation on the origins of how water and other chemicals vital to life were introduced to our planet.
An excellent talk by our esteemed Secretary.
