12 October 2018. Finding Space Rocks
Will discussed the various types of meteorites, their composition and the best and worst places to find them.
He described in detail how to avoid punctures and deadly snakes while searching, digging into flat roofs and walking hundreds of kilometres for hours in search of an elusive rock, often finding very old rusty tin cans and spanners. His humorous account of finding a meteorite whilst playing miniature golf with camel dung was a high point of the talk and was met with some witty banter from members.
Will answered questions to finish and had specimens on display, including his first find which we were able to handle which was about the size of a marrowfat pea.
This was a great talk, amply illustrated and an excellent start to the season.
My apologies for the slight sync error at the end.
